Traditional karate was originally developed for self-protection and self-defense. The world has changed since karate’s origin. Today the karate is studied as a martial art, for health, sport, character development, or simply as a fun activity. Still, traditional karate (traditional martial arts in general) seeks to retain its original purposes and principles while adapting and evolving training methods to meet the ethos of the current era.

Students taking this course will explore fundamental principles through the study of three basic punching techniques of Japanese Shotokan Karate. A firm, functional grasp of the principles is the key to transforming a basic technique into a highly advanced technique.

While the course is open to all ages, the minimum recommended age is 7 due to the technical nature of the lessons.
